Join us for a memorable encounter with our Christian heritage in Germany and Switzerland as we explore the lives of the great Reformers. This classic Reformation tour begins in the fascinating city of Berlin and follows the Luther Trail through the heart of Reformation territory. We continue to Lake Konstanz, to hear the powerful story of Jan Hus, who gave his life for his beliefs. The fairy tale Black Forest also awaits us on our journey. Then we cross the border into Switzerland and explore the life of Reformer Ulrich Zwingli in Zurich. A drive through exquisite Alpine scenery brings us to the heart of Switzerland—the Bernese Oberland. We journey up the ten thousand foot peak of the Schilthorn for breathtaking views of the Swiss Alps and end our journey in the beautiful city of Geneva for a look at the life of Reformer John Calvin. Today we are met at the airport upon arrival in Berlin, Germany and transferred to our hotel. This is a land only tour but we will be happy to arrange your airfare from any US destination. Enjoy free time to relax this afternoon before our welcome dinner. (Berlin, 2 nights) D
Thursday, September 10, 2009 • Berlin
This morning we have an orientation tour of Berlin, where we learn the fascinating history of this city. It has been at the epicenter of world history on several occasions—most notably when the wall came down in November of 1989. This afternoon is free for you to shop or visit any number of outstanding museums. B/D
Friday, September 11, 2009 • Erfurt
Today is devoted to the heart of the Reformation in Wittenberg. We visit the Castle Church and see where Luther inadvertently launched the Reformation on October 31st, 1517, when he nailed his 95 Theses to the church door. We also visit the best Reformation museum in the world—Lutherhalle (Luther House). Other highlights include St. Mary’s Church, where Luther frequently preached. After lunch we continue on to Eisleben to see the house where Luther was born and the house where he died. We end our day in Erfurt, perhaps staying in the Augustinian Monastery where Luther lived while studying to be a monk. (Erfurt, 1 night) B/D
Saturday, September 12, 2009 • Baden Baden
This morning we have a tour of the Augustinian Monastery before heading to Wartburg Castle, where Luther stayed in hiding for nearly a year after a fake kidnapping staged by his friend and protector, Frederick the Wise. It was here that he translated the New Testament into German. After our visit we drive to the elegant spa town of Baden-Baden, where we spend the next two nights. (Baden-Baden, 2 nights) B/D

Sunday morning begins with worship at a local church. Later we enjoy lunch and fellowship with members of the congregation. The afternoon is at leisure to enjoy Baden-Baden on your own. B/L
Monday, September 14, 2009 • Zurich
We get an early start today as we leave Baden-Baden and take a scenic drive through the Black Forest, stopping to admire Schaffhausen Waterfall, the largest in Europe. We continue on to Konstanz, a lovely town on the lake. It’s also the place where Reformer Jan Hus was martyred. We visit Konstanz Cathedral where Hus was sentenced to death in 1415. We end our day in Zurich, Switzerland where we spend the night. (Zurich, 1 night) B/D
Tuesday, September 15, 2009 • Wengen
This morning is devoted to the sights of Protestant Reformer Ulrich Zwingli, who preached in Zurich from 1519-1531. Zwingli believed the Bible alone was the sole source of faith. Our sightseeing highlights include the Fraumünster Cathedral—famous for its Chagall stained glass windows and the Grossmünster—where Zwingli sparked the Reformation in this region. We also visit the Guild Hall and Museum. We have lunch aboard our motor coach as we drive to the charming city of Lucerne where we have a chance to see the city walls and famous covered wooden bridges which date from the 14th century. We continue driving through beautiful mountain scenery until we reach our home for the next two nights—the traffic free resort town of Wengen. (Wengen, 2 nights) B/L/D
Wednesday, September 16, 2009 • Wengen
This morning we experience spectacular views as we ascend the Schilthorn by cable car. (Weather permitting) This 10,000 foot peak has a revolving restaurant which became a Hollywood set during the filming of the James Bond movie On Her Majesty’s Secret Service. After a morning spent high in the Alps we catch our breath in the beautiful Lauterbrunnen Valley. The rest of the day is free for you to make your own Alpine memories. Take the unforgettable train ride through the Eiger mountain to the Jungfrau— the highest peak in the region, visit Interlaken, hike to nearby villages, or join us for an optional horseback riding excursion through breathtaking scenery. Thursday, September 17, 2009 • Lausanne
Our day begins with a drive through the exceptionally picturesque Golden Pass train route from the Bernese Oberland to Montreux—a lovely resort town where we stop for lunch. We visit the 12th century Chateau de Chillon—made famous by the romantic poet Lord Byron. During the 16th century the chateau served as a Counter-Reformation prison. We end our day in Lausanne—situated on Lake Geneva with a spectacular view of the Alps. (Lausanne, 2 nights) B/D
Friday, September 18, 2009 • Lausanne
We take a drive along the shores of Lake Geneva today to visit the “City of Calvin.” Our walking tour of Geneva begins at the Reformation Wall Monument followed by a visit to the Reformation Museum in the historic quarter. We visit St. Peter’s Cathedral, where John Calvin taught the doctrine that made him famous throughout the Protestant faith. We also take a guided tour of the archeological discoveries underneath St. Peter’s. Enjoy an afternoon at leisure and a mini-cruise on Lake Geneva before returning to Lausanne for our farewell dinner. B/D

Your Tour Does Not Include:

- Optional insurance for health (This insurance is available and recommended.)
A deposit of $500 per person is due with reservation. Final payment is due 75 days prior to departure date. An invoice will be sent out prior to final payment. Both the deposit and final payment may be made by personal check, money order, or credit card. However, credit card payments will incur an additional 3% surcharge.
Currency exchange rates fluctuate constantly. In the event of a significant drop in the value of the dollar, we reserve the right to add a currency surcharge to the price of the tour.
All cancellations must be in writing and date of postmark will determine the amount of refund due. Regardless of reason, cancellations are costly. If you cancel, all unrecoverable expenses from our suppliers will be charged, in addition to the following charges per person:
Time of deposit to 120 days before departure: $200
119-75 days before departure: forfeiture of deposit
74-60 days before departure: 25% of total package price
59-14 days before departure: 50% of total package price
13 days or less: 100% of the package price
There are no refunds for unused/missed days.
IMPORTANT NOTE: This tour requires the ability to walk and stand for at least two hours at a time during museum and walking tours.
